
Meetings are held in the Waiting Room, Alnwick Station and start promptly at 7.15pm
Thursday 25th September 2008: Well-known railway author and publisher Professor Alan Earnshaw makes the trip from Appleby to Alnwick to give us his illustrated talk entitled ‘Trains in Trouble’, the tales of some railway accidents. Not to be missed!
Thursday16th October 2008: Andrew Everett makes a welcome return visit to Alnwick. This time his talk, entitled ‘Alexander McDonnell, 1829-1904, a surprising talent’, concerns the life of another famous NER (and GSWRI) Engineer.
Thursday 13th November 2008: Professor Iain Moffat comes to visit us from Hexham to present his illustrated talk entitled: ‘Railway Signalling – a Historical Introduction’.
Thursday 11th December 2008: ‘Christmas Social & Members’ Evening’. AVRS members, friends and guests have an opportunity to give a short railway-linked presentation. A slide projector, DVD and video player will be available. Seasonal refreshments as well! Do volunteer!
Thursday 15th January 2009: AVRS Member Bart Rippon will travel many miles from Australia to give us his talk on ‘The Amble Branch’. Have you bought a copy of his book with this title? Hopefully his book on the Alnwick branch will be out by now!
Thursday 19th February 2009: Dave Collier makes his first visit to the AVRS to give his presentation ‘Main Line Steam in the Hills’; lots of shots from both the UK, Slovenia and possibly elsewhere too! Look out for some spectacular photography!
Thursday 19th March 2009: Local railway author and expert Bill Fawcett will entertain us as he describes ‘Manors to Tweedmouth: a century and a half of Newcastle and Berwick Railway stations’. An evening with lots of local flavour!
Thursday 23rd April 2009: Member Gordon Hall will entertain us with his presentation of slides entitled ‘Carlisle: Railway Border City: 1980s to the present.’ Steam, diesels and electrics on view and also a visit to the Direct Rail Services HQ!
Date to be arranged in May 2009: Annual Quiz Evening with the Gunnerton Railway Circle, to be held this year at the Church, Gunnerton Village, near Hexham. Come along and support the AVRS team! (Directions are available!)
Meetings are open to members, their guests and visitors for a small donation towards costs.
Refreshments will be available at 7.00pm.
